Rachel Allen

Rachel Allen (Nez Perce) @rachel_c_allen is a first-year Ph.D. student @udarthistory interested in cross-cultural understandings of air, atmosphere and sky in Native American and American art. Before pursuing this degree, she was an Assistant Curator at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) where she started as a curatorial fellow. Allen worked on several exhibitions @peabodyessex, including T.C. Cannon: At the Edge of America and Nature’s Nation: American Art and Environment.

Prior to PEM, she held positions as Assistant Professor at Michigan State University and Assistant Preparator at the Eli and Edy, the Broad Art Museum. While there, she co-founded the Emerging Museum Professionals Chapter of Michigan and earned a certificate in Collections Care at the International Preservation Studies Center. Allen received her M.F.A. and M.A. from Michigan State, and her B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Also a practicing artist, her solo exhibition airplay was on view earlier this year at Urbano Project in Boston. She also spends her time serving on the board of Open Door Immigration Services, an immigration clinic in Salem, Massachusetts, and on the advisory board for the Center for Collection Care at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin.
